Grandma

I am thirty years old and until today still had all four grandparents (plus two bonus grandparents!)...and today I lost my first.

Grandma Gail was my Dad's mom, and she lived at "the ranch".  As a kid when we would go visit (which was only a couple to a few times per year) she was down on the floor playing Pick-Up Sticks or Tiddliwinks with us, or she was on the couch reading us a book.

We were still able to make trips up there one or two times a year in the last few years.  I am thankful my Grandma was at my wedding.  I am grateful she held Gracie as a baby and played tea party with her as a little girl.  She may not have been able to play games down on the floor, but she was still able to cuddle on the couch and read to her.  We were just there in November, and she met and held Charlotte for the first time and the last time.  We had THE BEST visit.  This is another thing I am grateful for.

She would have been 87 on February 5th.  She passed away early this morning in her bed with my Grandpa at her side.  I will miss her terribly...her voice reading to my kids, seeing her in the kitchen cooking a wonderful meal for her family, and I will miss the sweet cards in the mail and phone calls that ALWAYS ended with "I love you Chels, give those girls a kiss for me".

Now, she is in Heaven, reunited with her Daddy she spoke so highly of, her daughter (my Auntie Dearest) and many other family and friends who went before her.

Out and About

Running errands on a gorgeous day

The lion at the park

Puzzles at the library

Gracie at dance before anyone else showed up

Seeing "Cinderella" with my mom at the neatest old theater

After the library- she LOVES books, and goes to her nap every day with them.

Charlotte's first time on a swing- she loved it

"Castle Park"

Isn't it amazing?!

Now that we have not had as much rain, the girls and I have been getting out more.  I know the times at the Library for story time, music time, and toy time, Gracie has started dance class, and I have been finding better and cooler parks close by.  We tend to gravitate to Folsom, which has grown a lot.  I like their libraries, shopping, and parks.  If you have never been there, they also have the BEST "old" part of town.

Where Did Time Go?

Tiffani and I have been friends since childhood...dance, swim team, sleepovers, first cars...
Then in each other's weddings...and all of a sudden we are "grown-ups"

We both have daughters...and they are only 11 days apart in age!  Now that they are almost 3, it's the perfect time to get them together for play dates.  They both love dress-up and music.  Today was our first play date, and Tiffani and I had a chance to catch up too.  I look forward to many more get-togethers with our little princesses!  Thanks for having us over!

Snow Day

We missed Tim so much when we were gone!  He was happy to have us home, and had planned a snow day for his day off (which thankfully was the next day!).  We got up and started with Starbucks, and headed up to a snow park just past Blue Canyon.  Gracie has been to the snow but not that she can remember...so she was pretty excited.  We made a small snowman, and even did some sledding which she LOVED.

She loves him!

My baby and I watched from the side lines- though I did go down with Gracie a few times!

Our family time is the best!

Washington 2012/2013

My Dad turned 60 this year, and my step-mom, Debbie, had been planning a surprise for over a year. Five years ago we all spend a long weekend together at the North Head lighthouse in Ilwaco, WA.  We had a relaxing time reading, watching movies, and exploring the lighthouse.  It stormed pretty well last time we were there.  Fast forward five years...my step-brother has 2 kids, we have two kids, and Korbe and Traci live in Wyoming instead of a couple hours away in Eugene.  When we found out Tim couldn't get the time off, I wasn't sure how it could work...and my dad knew NOTHING.  Debbie wanted to help so bad that she booked herself tickets to come down here to fly with me and help with the girls and tickets to do the same to get me home!  We ventured up together (Charlotte did really well on the plane...it's just the logistics of it all with folding/unfolding the stroller, getting myself and two tiny people through security with GASP! liquids, and keeping it together on the plane) so having Debbie as my side kick was invaluable.  We got to their house with my two gigantic suitcases and surprised my dad when he came home for lunch.

Korbe and Traci were another story...my Dad was sorta expecting them to show up Friday night...but when they didn't, and we left without them to head to the coast, it made the surprise even better.  We got to the vacation homes and they had stashed their rental car and were in the living room sitting on the couch!  He was definitely surprised and happy.  My step-brother, Nick, came that afternoon and his family joined him Monday night...Gracie waited very IMPATIENTLY for Xander to get there so she could have a play mate.  In the meantime we played with my babies, had foam block wars, took walks in the gorgeous weather, explored the big old homes, and just enjoyed each other's company.

Charlotte decided to help me out and sit up by herself for the VERY first time on Sunday morning.  This is right when it happened, which I was happy to get to document since Tim wasn't able to be there.

A "tower" fit for a princess...we were sad the inside of the lighthouse was closed this time due to renovations...I was looking forward to Gracie climbing those stairs!

I strapped Charlotte to my Dad for the afternoon

Gracie and "Uncle Mamo"

Korbe promised Gracie sand to build a castle...and when we found a beach we had to hike over all this driftwood...but he carried her because he promised!  Then she hated when her hands got all dirty!

Building a tower!

My cousin Xander...finally!

Running and chasing..that's one of our houses in the back...they are said to be haunted and they have creepy attics and basements!

Happy baby on the plane ride home!

Christmas 2012

We had a great Christmas this year.  Gracie is at such a fun age, and was also old enough to understand that Christmas is not just about gifts.  On the 23rd we went to the Christmas service at church, and the girls got to wear the Christmas dresses my mom spent hours and hours finishing just in time!  On Christmas Eve while Tim was working Gracie and I made candy cane cupcakes for Jesus' birthday after having Rudolph pancakes and candy cake fruit for breakfast (thanks, Pinterest!).  Then, after Tim was off work we went to my mom's for dinner.  We had a nice dinner and she gave us our annual ornaments...mine was a penguin with a purse on its' arm representing our trip to Sea World this year where my mom almost lost her purse!  Tim's was a Reese's peanut butter cup (his favorite) and the girls each got a beautiful princess shoe...we also opened gifts and had yummy dessert before heading home in the girls' new jammies to get to bed early (Santa and Mrs. Clause had work to do!)

Sitting through church went pretty well despite a little fussing!  Gracie loved the glow sticks (instead of candles!)

She loved the cream cheese/soy sauce/green onion and triscuit appetizer!

all ready for Christmas morning!

These were Gracie's own cookies she made with very little help!

On Christmas we had my mom and Tim's family over for brunch after doing stockings and gifts as a family.  Gracie had lots of practice on her new microphone and even sang "Happy Birthday Jesus" to an audience. After naps we took the girls to Pam's house for Christmas dinner.  We felt it was important to be there with her for her first Christmas without Bob.  We had a WONDERFUL time visiting and having a prime rib dinner, and Gracie got the coolest bike!
