When my mom booked her spring trip for this weekend we really wanted to take her to the beach. The girls had such a great time playing together in the sand when Tim's parents were here and it was such a relaxing day that it's just what we wanted this weekend. Friday would be the only day we could go that Tim could join us so that was our plan. Of course one thing was riding on it...the weather. Earlier this week we saw the forecast leading up to Friday...sun. Friday forecast? RAIN :( Boo. Oh well. We made other tentative plans. Then Thursday night I looked again and it changed to saying the rain would be over in the morning and it was supposed to be clouds and sun the rest of the day. Okay then... let's take the chance. My mom's plane landed at 8:30 in the morning and we picked her up at MAX in Beaverton with the car packed with muffins, coffee, blanket, sand toys, snacks, and more. We had decided to go check out Seaside because I had heard great things about it and we hadn't been there yet. The drive was gorgeous and sunny. Seaside was nice and we had a fun lunch in an old fashioned style soda fountain shop. The girls got to swing on a swing set right on the beach, they found lots of shells and partial sand dollars, and enjoyed running around on the sand. After awhile we decided to pack up and head down to Cannon Beach. Seaside was nice, but doesn't compare to Cannon Beach in our eyes.

It was a short drive to Cannon Beach and we were parked on our blanket with some salt water taffy :)

After a long, beautiful, fun-filled, sunny day at the beach we headed home and decided to stop on the way at McMenamins Grand Lodge for dinner. McMenamins has many restaurants and several hotels which have been converted and renovated from other uses and hold so much history. This one began in 1917 as a Masonic and Eastern Star home for the "aged and infirm, and the poor and distressed worthy of Master Masons, their widows and orphans..."
It is so rich with history and beauty everywhere you look...and the food in the restaurant was amazing. It was truly the greatest end to one of the greatest days!
